MedDRA Versioning

As new versions of MedDRA are released every six months, bringing your company up-to-date can be a constant struggle.

ThesIS offers an innovative versioning service that can migrate ("upversion") your entire company to the latest release quickly and cost-effectively. We make it easy to continually keep your company up-to-date as new MedDRA versions are released.

Our MedDRA versioning service is not limited to the latest release. We can upversion between any two versions of MedDRA.

Exclusive MedDRA Versioning Tools

Our proprietary thesaurus system contains innovative MedDRA versioning tools that enable us to quickly and precisely pinpoint those reported terms that need to be re-coded as a result of the new version.

First, we identify and re-code those reported terms coded to a lowest level term (LLT) which has subsequently been set to non-current in the new version.

We then identify and re-code those reported terms for which a newly added LLT is a better choice than what was previously available. We accomplish this, however, without the need to evaluate every reported term. Checking every reported term would be extremely laborious and costly, equivalent to a complete re-coding.

Instead, our expert coders use our exclusive versioning tools to apply a top-down process where we take each new LLT and then identify exactly those reported terms that should be re-coded to that new LLT. Our versioning tools contain a powerful search capability that enables us to quickly and accurately pinpoint these reported terms.

Complete Versioning with Minimal Re-Coding

The end result of this innovative process is that your data is completely updated to the latest version (every reported term coded to the best possible LLT) with minimal re-coding.

This highly targeted approach means that typically 95% or more of your data remains unchanged, thereby preserving the quality of your original coding.

More than Impact Analysis. You Get Actual Data.

Changes made within the MedDRA hierarchy also need to be re-applied to your data. This includes instances where the reported term has no change in LLT, but the MedDRA hierarchy has changed for that LLT. For example:

  • The LLT has been moved to a different preferred term (PT)
  • The primary system organ class (SOC) for a PT has changed

We provide reports that show not only instances where a reported term was re-coded, but also where a reported term has had a change in the other MedDRA levels as a result of a change in the new version. Using these reports, you can easily assess the impact of the new MedDRA version.

With our MedDRA versioning service, you'll get more than impact analysis reports. You get actual data completely updated to the new version. We provide each reported term not only with its LLT as coded in the new version, but also with its associated hierarchy (preferred term, high level term, high level group term, and primary system organ class) as reflected in the new version.

You will have data coded to both the new and old versions, allowing you to report against either version.

Proven Results.

ThesIS's versioning techniques and proprietary tools have been developed and refined from our long-term use of MedDRA. Our industry-leading MedDRA versioning service has proven itself through timely migrations for small and large companies. We can do the same for you.
